“Dimitar Dobrovich” Art gallery Sliven

Dimitar Dobrovich Art Gallery – Sliven, was founded in 1905. In his testament, the Bulgarian Renaissance artist Dimitar Dobrovic leaves 14 of his own works in his hometown. With them the young artist Yordan Kyuvliev arranges the first exhibition in the library “Zora”. Later, 40 works by Zoica Kyuvlieva, the mother of the dead artist Yordan Kyvliev, were added to these works. In 1965, “Dimitar Dobrovich” was established as an independent cultural institute with its building for exposition and with the official name – Dimitar Dobrovich Art Gallery. Today, the gallery has over 6,000 works of art – painting, graphics, sculpture, applied art, icons and church plates. The collection contains works from the 17th century to the present day. Two significant collections – “Western European Graphics” from the 19th and 20th centuries – donations from Prof. Bogomil Raynov and “Japanese Engravings” from XVIII-XIX century, present the foreign department at the Dimitur Dobrovich Art Gallery – Sliven. The gallery has four permanent exhibitions: • Contemporary Bulgarian art • Old Sliven • Christian art • Western European graphics The permanent exhibition “Foreign Art” presents the collection “Western European Graphics XIX-XX century” – a gift from the Professor Bogomil Raynov to Sliven Municipality, made in 1987. The collection includes 300 paintings by 200 world-famous artists from the 19th and 20th centuries: Goya, Delacroix, Daumier, Corot, Millet, Renoir, Steinlen, Vlaminck, Derain, Dufy, Picasso, Chagall, Moore and others, representatives of the art schools – Classicism, Romanticism, Realism, Modernism, Impressionism, Secession and the new art streams from the 20th Century. The collection gives an excellent opportunity to observe the development of various graphic techniques – lithography, etching, wood and metal engraving and others.
