The church is located in the southwestern part of Kyustendil in Kolusha. This is the oldest preserved medieval church in Kyustendil. According to its architectural features and the recently discovered medieval frescoes, its dating can be attributed to the late XIV – early XI century. There is a suggestion that here is the tomb of the Bulgarian Tsar Michael III Shishman, who was killed in the Battle of Velbuzhd in 1330. In the 19th century, the church was destroyed by the Turks (to the foundations of the vaults) and in 1878-1880 it was restored. The church has a great historical, artistic and architectural value.
