Pleven Regional History Museum



Pleven Regional Historical Museum is a scientific and educational institution. Shall operate in the investigation, study, presentation, preservation and promotion of monuments of culture, the flora and fauna on the territory of Pleven region. In the area revealed significant archaeological sites – the Roman city Oescus in with. Gigen, antique and early Byzantine fortress Storgozia near Pleven, Bulgarian medieval fortress in Nikopol. Its structure includes the following specialized departments and units: Archeology, History of Bulgaria XV – XIX c., Modern and Contemporary History, Ethnography, Nature, Stocks and scientific records, Public Relations, Studio for restoration and conservation, Photo Lab, Library.
The museum and museum funds are located in an impressive two-storey building – a cultural monument of national importance, with a total area of ​​about 7,000 m2 park with outdoor exhibition area of ​​37 acres. The main fund of the museum includes more than 180 000 museum. The specialized museum library has over 10,000 volumes of scientific literature and periodicals. Since 1976, together with the museums in Vratsa, Vidin and Montana, Pleven museum has participated in the publication of the yearbook – Proceedings of the museums in northwestern Bulgaria, from which have been published 27 volumes.
