Haskovo Region
Haskovo region is situated on the border with Greece and Turkey and covers the southwestern parts of the Sakar Mountains and the northern of the Eastern Rhodopes. Several large rivers pass through the area and these are Maritsa, Arda and Suzlijka. The region is mainly engaged in tobacco, textiles and knitwear industries.
In the valley of the Maritsa River there are many Thracian mounds, religious temples, old settlements, tombs, shrines and dolmens in the Sakar Mountains and the Eastern Rhodopes.

Monument of the Virgin Mary
The highest statue of the Madonna and Child in the world is located in the town of Haskovo. The symbolism is not randomly chosen. The Mother of God has always been regarded as the patroness of Haskovo.
The Aleksandrovo Tomb
The Aleksandrovo Tomb was discovered in 2000, during excavations of the Roshava Chuka (“Rockpile Peak”) Thracian burial mound, which is located in the western part of Aleksandrovo village, roughly 20 km from the city of Haskovo.
