Kardzhali Region
Кardzhali region is located in the Eastern Rhodopes between the Upper Thracian Lowland and Aegean Thrace. Kardzhali is advanced in the agriculture industry and above all tobacco production. There are numerous caves, natural phenomena and picturesque valleys of the Arda, Varbitsa and Krumovitsa rivers.
Natural landmarks such as the Stone Wedding Rock Formations, formed 40 million years ago, the “Rock Window” and “Rock Mushrooms” phenomena are the result of volcanic activity and attract many tourists. The area also includes the holy Thracian town of Perperikon and many Thracian sanctuaries and necropolises.

Medieval Archaeological Complex Perperikon
Perperikon is located in the East Rhodope Mountain, 20 km northeast from the town of Kardzhali. The rock city stands on a cliff top at a height of 470 meters. The comfortable river valley has created conditions of life since ancient times. Therefore the valley is strewn with dozens of archaeological sites from various ages, the center of which is Perperikon.
