Montana Region

The Montana region borders Romania to the north through the Danube, and Serbia to the southwest. It covers parts of the Danube plain and the Fore Balkan.
Water transport is key to the region. Port Lom is the second largest river port in Bulgaria and via the Danube River the region is connected through the so-called European Channel with the Main and Rhine rivers. Some of the larger rivers passing through the area are Ogosta, Lom and Tsibritsa.
The region offers favorable conditions for the development of cultural, spa and ecotourism. Traces of prehistoric settlements, medieval fortresses and churches can be found on its territory.
