Sliven Region
On the territory of the Sliven region there are located several passages in the Balkan Mountains, which connect North and South Bulgaria. The relief flows from the hilly and mountainous to the north to the plain in the southern parts. Industry and agriculture are well developed and the textile industry in particular has strong traditions since the first half of the 19th century, when the first weaving factory in the then Ottoman Empire was established in Sliven. During the Ottoman rule in the mountains of the region there were many haidouches groups, which today are honored with monuments throughout the region. Craftsman and trade are also traditional crafts that have their roots in history.

The Georgi Stoykov Rakovski Pantheon
One noteworthy display in the Kotel Museum of History is the Pantheon of Georgi Stoykov Rakovski, located in the section of the museum dedicated to the Kotel Awakening. The pantheon recognizes Rakovski (1821-1867), also known as Georgi Sava Rakovski, as one of Bulgaria’s most revered educators and revolutionaries.
