Sofia Region
Sofia region is located in the central part of Western Bulgaria and covers parts of the Western Stara Planina, Ihtiman Sredna Gora, Rila and several mountains including Vitosha, Verila and Plana. The relief is varied – from flat to mountainous – and many rivers go through the area. Mineral springs are also not uncommon.
One of the pride of Sofia, Vitosha is a national park that has built ski slopes, hotels, hiking trails and others that attract tourists and visitors from the area throughout the year. Borovets also attracts great interest because it is an international ski center.
The area was populated in the late Paleolithic. Visible traces left the Romans, and later the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdom, as well as the Ottoman Empire, shaped the present cultural and historical heritage. It is the city of Sofia that is the center of cultural and economic development in Bulgaria.

Memorial Temple “St. Alexander Nevski”
The cathedral temple “St. Alexander Nevski” is considered a symbol of the Bulgarian capital. It is located in the center of Sofia, at the eponymous square.
