The Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at BAS is a leading national institution in the field of ethnology and folklore, whose purpose is to support the
public consciousness about cultural identity and traditions and their role in the modern world. It is a successor of one of the oldest cultural institutions in the country – The National Ethnographic Museum. The building, which houses the museum, is a cultural monument of national importance. The structure of the Institute includes scientific archive and three libraries. Prestigious periodicals are published often and scientific conferences are organized. The museum does not support a permanent exhibition, but presents several temporary exhibition annually – it’s own exhibitions and visiting ones. It is a host to other cultural events as well.
