
National Museum of History (NMH) is one of the largest and richest historical museums in the Balkans. It has collection of more than 700 000 monuments representing the history of Bulgarian lands for 8,000 BC until the middle of XX century.
The main exhibition of the museum is located in five halls: Prehistory, Ancient Thrace, Middle Ages – First (VII-XI century) and the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (XII – XIV century), the Bulgarian lands in XV-XIX c. And Third Bulgarian State (1878 – 1946).
Among the most popular exhibits are the Panagyurishte treasure (pictured) and the golden ring of Tsar Kaloyan.
In a separate room are exhibited ancient and medieval coins.
Along with the rich ethnographic collection there is a reconstruction of the Renaissance school.
In the courtyard of the museum there are stone columns, monuments from antiquity and the Middle Ages.
In NMH shop sell souvenirs, information materials, literature. For the museum visitors there is also a library.
