In the Old Town of Plovdiv, among the beautiful Renaissance houses, is situated Hindliyan`s House – one of the 100 National Tourist sites. The owner was Stepan Manuk, a renowned Armenian merchant, whose trade let him to India, where the new name Hindlian was given to him. Hindliyan`s House is only metres away from The Balabanov House, near to Armenian Apostolic Church of Surp Kevork. The construction of the house was completed in 1835 and it is one of the most beautiful and ornate houses in Plovdiv. Two Chirpan icon-painters have painted the house for 6 months. The rooms are decorated with landscapes from Constantinople, Lisbon, Athens, Alexandria, St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Venice. The house had also the only indoor bath with running hot water in the Old Town. The entrance of the house is inward, which is not typical of the architecture at that time. The rooms on the first floor were smaller, with a lower ceiling and cooler in the summer. On the second floor there is a fountain, in which rose water has circulated in the past. Outside the house there is a kitchen, servants’ rooms and a washing machine.
