Stara Zagora Region
The Stara Zagora Region covers the Stara Zagora Plain, the Kazanlak Valley, part of Stara Planina and Sredna Gora. The area is rich in water resources – rivers, lakes, karst springs and numerous mineral springs. Kazanlak and the valley surrounding the town are famous for growing roses.
The region was the center of the Thracian culture and many mounds and tombs are located along the Tundzha River in the Kazanlak valley and that it is why it is called the Valley of the Thracian Kings. The Thracian tomb in Kazanlak is the most famous heritage left by the Thracians and it is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are also monuments related to the Liberation of Bulgaria, most of which are located around the peaks of Shipka and Buzludja.

Kazanlak Tomb
An original Thracian tomb from 4th – 3rd century BC is situated in the Tyulbeto park. It is known as the Kazanlak Tomb. It is under a special storage regime. Its duplicate, constructed in scale 1:1, which presents the architecture, the archaeological materials and the wall-paintings of the Kazanlak Tomb, is situated next to it.
National Park-Museum Shipka
National Park Museum Shipka is located on top of Shipka Peak (1,326 m) in the Balkan Mountains, 28 km from the town of Kazanlak and 22 km from the town of Gabrovo. The park comprises of 26 monuments, the reconstructed battle positions, artillery batteries and dugouts of the defenders of Shipka Pass during the Russo-Turkish War from 1877 – 78.
