Ruse Region
The Ruse region extends over parts of the Danube Plain and Ludogorie. The region is an important transport center, due to the fact that the Danube flows into the Black Sea. Ruse is important river port and its bridge connects Bulgaria and Romania.
In the 19th century Rousse was the gateway to the European cultural influence on the Bulgarian lands. The region played a key role during the Bulgarian Revival and Liberation. The Romans and Thracians lived in these lands beforehand and left deep traces with their cultural heritage.

Ivanovo Rock Churches
The monastery was founded in the 1220s by the monk Yoakim, who later became a Bulgarian patriarch. The Bulgarian tsars Yoan Asen ІІ (1218-1241), Yoan Alexander (1331-1371) and other representatives of the royal court, were among the monastery donators, and their donor’s portrait are preserved to the present day.
Pantheon of the Heroes of the National Revival
The Pantheon is located in the old cemetery of the city of Ruse, in the Park of the Heroes of the National Revival. The Pantheon was built to commemorate the Bulgarians who gave their lives for the liberation of Bulgaria. It is a memorial-ossuary and houses the remains of 453 revolutionaries and Opalchentsi (members of voluntary Bulgarian army units who took part in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878), freedom-fighters, cultural activists and educators.
